Frankie's Success Story

Cornerstone Specialty Hospital Muskogee patient Frankie stands with her caregivers

Diagnosed with respiratory failure and pneumonia, Frankie required high-flow supplemental oxygen. At Cornerstone Specialty Hospital, her interdisciplinary care team helped her strengthen her lungs and regain her mobility and independence. After three weeks, she was discharged home.

Frankie, a woman with a big heart, who spends time baking and serving her community, experienced severe shortness of breath.  At the hospital, she was diagnosed with respiratory failure and needed to be placed on a BiPAP machine to help her breathe. She was also found to have a respiratory infection and pneumonia.

Unfortunately, Frankie worsened to the point of needing to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). After a little over a week in the ICU, Frankie was transferred to Cornerstone Specialty Hospital Muskogee. When she arrived, she was on high-flow supplemental oxygen and could not move much without significant shortness of breath and fatigue. She needed help getting in and out of bed, eating, bathing, and dressing.

Frankie spent nearly three weeks at Cornerstone Muskogee, working closely with our physicians, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and rehabilitation team. During her time with us, she was successfully weaned off high-flow supplemental oxygen, became able to transfer in and out of bed without assistance, and walked over 700 feet independently using a rolling walker. Thanks to her incredible progress, Frankie was able to return home with her family.

Frankie, it was an honor to be part of your recovery journey. We wish you all the best and hope you're back to volunteering and baking your famous peach pies very soon!

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
