Fred's Recovery from Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Fred spent 55 days at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital Broken Arrow recovering from a subarachnoid hemorrhage before transferring to another facility to continue care.
A Patient Success Story From Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Broken Arrow
Fred suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motorcycle crash and required mechanical ventilation to breathe.
AT ADMISSION
Fred also sustained a subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding around the brain) and needed surgery to repair some of his fractures. In addition to ventilator support, he received a tracheostomy and a feeding tube.
TREATMENT AT CORNERSTONE
At Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Broken Arrow, Fred’s team balanced sedation and pain control while gradually reducing ventilator support. He received physical, occupational, and speech therapy. He was successfully weaned from the ventilator, had his tracheostomy removed, and regained the ability to sit at the edge of the bed and transfer.
OUTCOME
After 55 days, Fred was discharged to another facility for continued rehabilitation.
“We are eager to get back to our lives and (are) grateful for the care at Cornerstone,” Fred’s wife, Cailyn, said.
