Ryan’s Recovery from Brain Bleed and Respiratory Failure
Ryan suffered a brain injury and respiratory failure after a fall, requiring ventilator and tracheostomy support.
A Patient Success Story from Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Round Rock
After a serious fall caused brain injuries and respiratory failure, Ryan came to Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Round Rock for specialized respiratory care and rehabilitation. Along the way, the team celebrated an important milestone: his birthday.
AT ADMISSION
Ryan suffered a fall that resulted in a skull fracture, bleeding around the brain, declining neurological function, and respiratory failure. As his breathing worsened, he required a ventilator and a tracheostomy for breathing support.
TREATMENT AT KINDRED
Ryan received coordinated respiratory, speech, nursing, and rehabilitation services. He progressed from breathing through a tracheostomy to breathing independently without oxygen support. Speech therapy helped him regain communication and resume eating by mouth, allowing for removal of his feeding tube. Respiratory therapy managed his airway needs and successfully removed his tracheostomy.
OUTCOME
Ryan was discharged to an acute inpatient rehabilitation program to continue rebuilding his strength and independence.
“The doctors brought me back to life. From the time I arrived, my experience here has been phenomenal. The nursing, therapy, and medical teams have been instrumental in my recovery. The staff was attentive, supportive, and caring throughout my journey.”
